Accessibility Policy for Columbia Atheists

1. Commitment
   Columbia Atheists is committed to making our website and our activities accessible to people with disabilities. We aim to provide equal access to information and participation.
2. Digital accessibility standard
   Our goal is to conform to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines WCAG 2.1 Level AA, a widely used accessibility standard published by the World Wide Web Consortium.
   We use WCAG 2.1 Level AA as our technical target because it is the standard the U.S. Department of Justice adopted for state and local government web content under the Americans with Disabilities Act Title II rule, and it is a strong benchmark for accessibility work more broadly.
3. What we do
   We work to support accessibility through clear structure, readable text, meaningful alternative text for images when available, keyboard navigation where supported, and accessible forms to the extent our platform allows.
4. Third party tools and content
   Some parts of the site may rely on third party services, such as payment processing, maps, or embedded media. If any third party feature is not accessible, we will provide an alternate way to access the information or complete the task when requested.
5. Event accessibility and accommodations
   We aim to select locations and activities that are accessible. Reasonable accommodations are welcome for meetups, speaker events, and volunteer projects.

We aim to respond within five business days. If the request relates to a specific event date, include that date in the email so it can be prioritized.

7. Legal and reference frameworks
   This policy is intended to support accessibility consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act and related federal accessibility guidance.
   We also reference Section 508 accessibility concepts as a helpful technical framework, even though Section 508 applies to federal agencies and certain federal contexts.
8. Updates
   We review this policy periodically and update it as our website, tools, and accessibility guidance evolve.
